The Material Sciences building construction value was approximately $17.5 million dollars. The facility provided private laboratory space to the Scientist to run experimentation.
There are two floors dedicated as teaching space for undergraduate students in their early years of study. The five storey building was designed as a cast-in-place concrete structure and topped off with a conventional steel roof. Large spans requiring column free work space in the laboratories required a single span concrete beam girders and continuous one way slabs. The remaining floor areas were designed as a two way slab structure.
