Strathmere Lodge LTC Facility Strathroy Ontario
Strathmere Lodge is a 175- bed unit long term care facility situated on a large, relatively flat site in the town of Strathroy, Ontario. The facility is owned and operated by the County of Middlesex. The building combines one and two storeys with five 32- Resident Home Areas (RHAs). Each RHA is configured to allow for short resident travel distances to and from communal rooms and dining areas as well as improved circulation through a subsidiary "loop" corridor to facilitate staff and resident travel and care delivery. The two second floor level RHAs will have balcony access as well as the added benefit of a south-east facing roof terrace overlooking the garden
VB&S thoughtfully combined several building materials including cast-in place concrete slabs at the centre core and precast concrete floor planks on concrete block walls in the RHA wings to provide the most economical structure to accommodate the complex architectural layout. Wood roof trusses on steel and concrete were also used at the core to economically provide the sloped roof appearance at the central core.
