Western University is making significant strides in enhancing its campus infrastructure with the ongoing construction of a new student residence located at the iconic east entrance of the campus, adjacent to Elgin Hall. This development is set to provide modern, sustainable housing for first-year students, reinforcing the university's commitment to student well-being and community engagement.
Construction led by EllisDon for the University Drive Residence commenced in 2025, with a phased opening planned to start in September 2025. The residence is expected to be fully operational by September 2026, aligning with Western University's strategic growth plans.
The design by architects Tillmann Ruth Robinson reflects a blend of tradition and modernity. They have emphasized creating a welcoming environment that resonates with Western’s architectural heritage while introducing contemporary elements that appeal to today’s students. This approach ensures that the new residence not only meets functional needs but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of the campus entrance
