Strathmere Lodge is a modern long-term care facility located in Strathroy, Ontario, owned and operated by Middlesex County. Designed to provide a comfortable, safe, and supportive environment for seniors requiring 24-hour care, the facility blends residential warmth with institutional efficiency. The lodge offers 160 beds in a mix of private, semi-private, and basic accommodations, and is organized into four resident home areas to promote community and familiarity.
Amenities include a central dining area, activity and therapy spaces, landscaped courtyards, and a chapel, all thoughtfully integrated to support resident well-being. The facility emphasizes a person-centered approach to care, fostering dignity, independence, and quality of life. Designed with accessibility and aging-in-place principles in mind, Strathmere Lodge also features sustainable design strategies that enhance natural light and indoor air quality.
It serves as a key part of the region’s health infrastructure, meeting the growing needs of its aging population with compassion and professionalism.
The structural framing system of Strathmere Lodge combines load-bearing masonry, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and timber to meet the complex functional and architectural needs of the facility. Reinforced concrete floors and columns were used in the central common hub to provide robust support for high traffic areas and mechanical systems, while also enhancing fire resistance and acoustic separation. Load-bearing masonry walls frame the residential wings, offering durability and compartmentalization. Structural steel, including open-web joists, was used to span large open spaces in common areas. Sloped roof timber elements were incorporated in select roof and architectural features to provide a warm, residential character.
