Clare Hall, opened in 2013 as Western’s all-women hybrid style residence, stands out with its contemporary design and suite-style layout—each modern single occupancy room includes a queen bed, built-in desk, shelving, window seat, mini fridge, oversized vanity sink, and dramatic seven-foot, floor to ceiling closets. The building’s exterior features clean lines and generous glazing that bring natural light into both bedrooms and communal lounges.

Within each suite, students share a compact kitchen along with a floor lounge and study space—supporting independent living in an intimate community setting. A notably compact on site cardio/weight room sits tucked behind the first-floor laundry, offering essential equipment—treadmill, elliptical, bike, and dumbbells—for quick workouts.

Residents also enjoy 24/7 card access security, a vibrant in building dining hall, laundry facilities, and wireless connectivity throughout. The residence skillfully balances modern comfort, privacy, and a supportive living learning environment.

Clare Hall uses a hybrid system of structural steel framing, a mix of concrete and reinforced concrete block masonry shear walls and hollowcore precast floor systems to provide a robust and economic solution for the structural framing system. The foundations are shallow spread and strip footings supported on native soils. Long span joists framed the roof of the beautiful dining pavilion to accommodate the large open serving and dining areas. Careful consideration was given to the pavilions structural member sizing and positioning to ensure seamless meshing with the glazed exterior walls.
