The Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Multi-Purpose Facility in London, Ontario, exemplifies contemporary architectural excellence tailored to the dynamic needs of emergency services. Spanning 45,000 square feet, this state-of-the-art complex integrates administrative offices, logistics areas, training facilities, and a 20-bay ambulance garage, alongside a 2-bay operational ambulance station, ensuring seamless service delivery to the community.

Designed by architects Tillmann Ruth Robinson, the facility harmoniously blends functionality with aesthetic appeal. The building's smooth angular forms and high quality finishes are complemented by thoughtfully landscaped surroundings, enhancing both its visual presence and environmental integration.

The Middlesex-London EMS Facility received the 2019 City of London Urban Design Award of Excellence, highlighting its outstanding architectural and urban design contributions. This project stands as a testament to how thoughtful architectural design can enhance emergency services infrastructure, promote sustainability, and foster community pride.

This facility features a steel-framed superstructure on conventional concrete foundations, designed to support its varied operational demands. A standout element is the 20-bay ambulance garage, where long-span steel trusses create wide, column-free spaces to maximize vehicle storage, access, and maneuverability. The building’s exterior incorporates precast concrete panels, offering both durability and enhanced fire resistance. Inside, the layout prioritizes operational efficiency with optimized traffic flow, accessibility, and functional zoning. The structural design ensures flexibility for future adaptation while supporting the high-performance needs of a modern emergency services facility.
